Dispose of Unwanted Medications Properly - D.U.M.P.

The Norwich Township Fire Department, in conjunction with the Hilliard Division of Police, has joined forces with Help Out Ohio to collect and safely dispose of unwanted, unused and outdated over-the-counter and prescription medications.  This program, called Dispose of Unwanted Medications Properly (D.U.M.P.), collects these medications (pills, liquids, inhalers, medication patches, sharps containers, etc,) and then releases them to the Hilliard Division of Police for impounding and proper disposal.  This event will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2009 from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Safety Services Building, located at 5181 Northwest Parkway, Hilliard, OH.

Help Out Ohio is a non-profit organization based in Kettering, OH.  Their focus is substance abuse education and prevention.  The goals of the D.U.M.P. Program are to

•  provide our residents with a safe responsible way to dispose of unwanted and outdated medications
•  get unwanted and outdated medications out of the home and prevent self-medicating, abuse, accidental overdoses and theft of medications
•  protect our environment by ensuring these medications do not end up in our water and soil

It is easy to participate.  Simply bring your unwanted, unused or outdated medications to the Safety Services Building on Saturday, October 17, 2009.  There will be no paperwork to sign and no personal or pharmacy data collected.  Once you have reached the collection site, remove all personal information from the label.  Please leave the name of the medication and the dosage information portion of the label intact.

When the medication is collected, the medication name, dosage information and number of pills (patches, etc.) are logged.  This ensures accountability for every pill or item collected for Help Out Ohio, the Norwich Township Fire Department and the Hilliard Division of Police.  These statistics are used to maintain grant funding for the D.U.M.P. Program.
