Fire Prevention

fire preventionThe Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for Fire Investigation, Fire Code Enforcement, Building Plan Compliance, and Fire Safety Education.

It is the responsibility of the Fire Prevention Bureau to determine the origin and cause of every major fire. When a fire is determined to be arson, it is our responsibility to pursue that investigation to prosecution. Most of the time we will work with other law enforcement agencies to accomplish this task.

Fire Code enforcement includes fire safety inspections, life safety inspections, and building plan review. Every commercial building within our jurisdiction is scheduled for regular inspections. Included are daycares, factories, restaurants, retail stores, warehouses, nursing homes, schools, and anything that is not a private residence. Fire safety inspections of private residences are offered as a public service upon request for reasons such as adoption and foster care.

The Fire Prevention Bureau offers many public fire safety education programs. We are one of the sponsors of Hilliard Safety Town, a weeklong program held in June. During October of each year, the department promotes National Fire Prevention Week educating elementary-age students in the Hilliard City Schools. Fire safety and fire extinguisher courses are also available to local businesses.

If you have any questions for the Fire Prevention Bureau, call (614) 876-3331 or email bureau@norwichtownship.org.
