How to obtain a building permit

Apply for building permits online at the Franklin County Online Permit Center or at the Franklin County Building Department located at 142 South Front Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

Once an account is created, residents will have the ability to:

Apply for a permit
Check the status of your permit application
Pay permit fees online
Request an inspection
View scheduled inspections
Review inspection activity and results

Franklin County Economic Development and Planning

The Franklin County Economic Development and Planning Department is responsible for issuing building permits for family residential structures and associated development. The State of Ohio issues commercial building permits.

Franklin County engineer Driveway permits

Norwich Township uses the Franklin County Engineer’s office to approve driveway improvements. Contact the Franklin County Engineers with questions and access the online Permit System for residential driveway permits.
