Car Seat Checks

Did you know child car seat checks are offered at the Norwich Township Fire Department Station 83?

Car seat checks are typically scheduled on the first Friday and the third Saturday of each month at
Fire Station 83 - 4283 Davidson Road, Hilliard, OH  43026.

Scheduling
Plan on 30 minutes for one to two car seat checks. If you have more than two car seats, schedule two appointment times.  If you would like to include a second vehicle, you will also need to schedule two appointment times. You may have the seat installed and ready to check or have our Certified representative install it for you.  Either way, have the car seat out of the box; bring the instructions for the car seat; and, bring your car manual instructions in case we need to reference them.

Why schedule a car seat check?
Engineers and manufacturers continue to improve the design of both cars and car seats to keep kids as safe as possible. In order to take advantage of safety features, it’s up to parents to make sure car seats and boosters are installed correctly. According to www.safekids.org, road injuries are the leading cause of preventable deaths and injuries to children.  When child safety seats are correctly installed, the risk of death can be reduced by 71%.

Register Your Car Seat
It is also important to register your new or currently used car seat so that you can be notified about future recalls. You can complete the registration card that is included with your car seat and mail it to the manufacturer. Typically you can also find an information sticker on the car seat that allows you to register online with your car manufacturer.

Car Seats After Car Accidents
In a lot of cases, a car seat does need to be replaced after a car accident. Manufacturers have their own policies to explain when their car seats need to be replaced.  If the car seat needs to be replaced, contact the insurance company at fault and request reimbursement for a new seat.

*When discarding your crashed seat, cut the straps off and remove the cover prior to throwing the car seat in the trash.
