COBRA

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) gives employees and their qualified dependents the opportunity to continue medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage under the Norwich Township medical, dental, and vision insurance plans when a qualifying event would normally result in the loss of eligibility. Such qualifying events include, but are not limited to:

  • Resignation
  • Termination of employment
  • Death of an employee
  • Reduction in employee’s hours
  • Leave of absence
  • Divorce
  • Legal separation
  • A dependent child who no longer meets eligibility requirements
  • Employee’s entitlement to Medicare
Under COBRA, the employee or their qualified dependents must pay the full cost of coverage at Norwich Township’s group rates plus a COBRA Administrator administration fee. Norwich Township’s COBRA Administrator will provide each eligible employee and/or qualified dependents with a written notice describing their rights and obligations granted under COBRA. Employees must notify the Township Administrator within 30 days of a COBRA qualifying event.

CBIZ is the Township's COBRA administrative party. CBIZ issues elections and collects monthly premiums from COBRA participants.
